This pastel has been sitting, taped to a board, on an easel, for over a month. I had altered course on this composition shortly after starting, thinking the tarts and pear were pushed to far to the left. I taped over about 1.4 inches on the right to try to balance. I intended to mat and frame so the taped over parts would not be noticed.
I pulled the tape off, and discovered the sketchier foundation of the pastel. It seemed to balance, so I included it back into the composition.
The skyline of the pieces reminded me of an old style locomotive, which led to by association to the early 60s Goffin-King epic, “The Locomotion”, performed by Goffin-King’s babysitter, Little Eva.
